Life can be like walking on a tightrope

After hearing about Wallenda’s proposed walk across Niagara Falls, it got me to thinking about how much our lives can feel like we’re walking a tightrope everyday, some of us with a safety net and some of us without. It also got me to thinking about how confident we all really are, even though sometimes we feel vulnerable and scared. Most of us juggle a dozen things at a time and get through our day without crashing and burning, I think that deserves a pat on the back.

How many of us stop at the end of our day and think of all the things we accomplished rather than didn’t accomplish, for example the account that was won, the lives we touched and made happier, the time spent with the dog or the cat, the meal prepared and put on the table, the kids driven to class on time, and the myriad of other things that we have to do in a day.

Try this:
For a few minutes each night stop and think, or pick up a pencil and write down all the things you did that day, everything you can think of, but pay particular attention to the things that made you feel good to have got them done.Why did they make you feel good? How did they affect your mood for the rest of the day? Are you amazed at how much you achieved? Don’t dwell upon what you didn’t achieve, just take note of what you did get done or achieved and pat yourself on the back.

We can’t all walk across Niagara Falls, but what we accomplish every day is just as important and heroic for us and everyone around us.
